Mareike Franz - Vita
Mareike Franz made her childhood dream come true by becoming a dancer. She has been dancing since she was 5 years old. She is studying classical and modern dance techniques, improvisation, tap, composition and repertory with the greats of modern dance in Germany: in dance training of students of Kurt Joss as a child, and further studying at the Gret Palucca school with 17 years, she is then dancing in works by Susanne Linke and Pina Bausch.
This high ranking universe of modern dance reveals Mareike's skills and talents. She continues her education at the Folkwang University of the Arts, while she is on international tours with Susanne Linke and the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.
She experiences the genre of dance theatre in an intensive way.
She works in fixed dance contracts and as well as a freelancing artist, with choreographers of different countries and dance theatre styles,
An injury will force her to self-observation. The time of healing will pass by creating a clown character. She experiences the clown to overcome fears, re-channel creativity and set the laughter against the pain. She discovers poetry, playfulness, a wider and liberated range of emotions and body dynamics, the mood of tragic that turns into comedy. These new born creative channels let her become curious and passionate about the genre of the theatre and mime clown.
She participates in clown workshops with well-known clowns of theatre, mime and circus. This leads Mareike to create numerous solos, combining dance and acting.
Having performed for years in the blackbox, she experiences now different stage formats, as well as the genre of the street and a sudden physical encounter with the public, that requires totally different performing skills.
Understanding herself as a creative artist, and not as a pedagogue, Mareike has been given various dance workshops for dancers, mimes, actors, singers, adults and children in the last 10 years. Mareike is a certified trainer in the GYROKINESIS® movement method since 2021.
Thanks to her new artistic path, she met the Italian white clown Camilo.
As “SqueezyLemon Company” they are internationally performing as duo clown, and creating shows for the theatre and street festivals.
Mareike Franz continues to work and create as a freelancing artist.
She sees the genre of performing arts as a continuous, active and creative process of development, learning by doing.
